Is Paying for Convenience, Convenient?

Is paying for convenience, convenient? I think there’s a lot of things that we pay for that we might not necessarily need to pay for, while there’s also things that we probably should pay for if we want to free up our time and use that time to do something else. Think about all the times you pay for someone else to do something for you in your daily life. This can include paying someone to serve your coffee, wash your car, mow your lawn, deliver food to your door, cook your lunch, cut your hair, serve your drinks at a bar, renting an apartment and anything else you can think of. You can do all or most of these things by yourself but you continue to pay someone else to do it for you. You don’t mind spending $3– $5 on a cup of coffee even though you know you can make it at home for 20 cents per cup. You continue to pay for this convenience because it is convenient.

The question I have about paying for these conveniences is should we, and is it worth it? I think it can be worth it for certain things. If I can free up my time by having someone else do something that otherwise would take more time and effort, then that allows me to focus on other things that I enjoy. A lot of wealthy people also think like this. They outsource tasks that are less desirable. Someone who owns rental properties may be paying a property management company for the daily tasks of maintenance. This is convenient to the property owner because this allows them to not do any of the work themselves while creating a passive income. This explains the phrase, “work on your business and not in your business.”

Everyone pays for convenience at some point. When we go out to eat, we get to spend time with our family and friends while not having to worry about the preparation and cleanup. We outsource this work to the employees. We are paying for this convenience which is why we pay a higher price compared to cooking at home. In my opinion, it can be worth it to pay for conveniences when it allows you to free up your time and focus on other things that may be more important or enjoyable to you. Let me know what you think, is paying for convenience, convenient?
